Different Nappy Styles

Pocket Nappies
These nappies have a waterproof (PUL) outer & a soft microfleece/fleece inner. This nappy has a pocket opening (generally at the back, but occasionally at the front) to allow you to insert your choice of an absorbent booster, insert or soaker. Some of these nappies come with their insert/inserts. For additional absorption (generally required at night) you can certainly stuff the pocket with a prefold or terry flat nappy. The microfleece inner allows the moisture to draw though to the insert/soaker/booster etc leaving your baby nice & dry. They have elasticized legs & waist area with either velcro or snap fastenings & come in either one size fits all (grows with your baby) or multiple sizing (snug fit, not as bulky & but more expensive). To wash you will need to unstuff the pocket. They are quite a fast drying nappy, however you do need to restuff the nappy before use. I recommend restuffing all your washed nappies once dried to save time between nappy changes. Restuffing should only take about 5 minutes.
All In One Nappies
A lot like the pocket nappy but without the pocket. These nappies are exactly as they are called - All In One. They are a shaped nappy with a waterproof cover, absorbent material sewn in to them with velcro fasteners (note that there are a couple that come with the snap closure). They are a trim nappy & are a lot like using/putting on a disposable nappy, no extra bits are needed, you just put it on. This type of nappy is dearer but nothing additional is required. Drying time is longer, but they are definitely worth having in your collection, especially for going out & want a no fuss nappy to put on or you have a very wiggly baby.
Nappy Covers
When most people think of a nappy cover, they generally remember the plastic pilchers (not very breathable at all). Today nappy covers have come along way in style, breathability & material. Covers today are available as a pull up (elasticized waist & legs), or wrap style - does up by either snaps or velcro. They also come in either one size fits all (grows with your baby) or multiple sizing (snug fit, but more expensive). They come in a variety of breathable materials - PUL (Polyurethane Laminate), Wool or Fleece. If purchasing a cover try to stick to buying only ones made from PUL, Wool or Fleece to ensure good circulation, airflow & breathability. Remember a good cover is very important that it has good circulation, airflow, breathability & contains leaks while keeping clothes & baby dry. You will find the dearer the cover the better it generally is. You will only need a few covers as they can be used for up about 4 to 6 nappy changes (this will vary with poo leaks or excess wetting). I have four covers & I find that is ample. I only stock the nappy covers that I find to work the best.
